Five Ways to Experience Fall Fun in Central Florida

Five Ways to Experience Fall Fun in Central Florida

Y’all, it’s fall!

I’m excited about it because fall is my favorite time of year. The coolness in the air. The changing of the leaves. Even though that doesn’t happen much here in Winter Garden, the idea of fall is lovely.

What will the Newell clan be doing during this time of year? I’ve got five things on my “Fall Fun” list for the Winter Garden and Central Florida area.

1) Football

Football is one of the first things I think of in the fall season. I’m a former football player for the University of Florida, which means we’ll go to Gainesville to cheer on the Gators as often as possible. To all the other teams, well, best of luck.

Going to a local high school or youth football game is also fun. It’s a great way to support a local team and remember the sights and sounds of your younger days.

2) Fall Festivals

There’s something about going out to a farm with the corn stalks, kids activities, food, drinks, and pumpkin patches. It’s a special time.

One of the ones that we go to is Southern Hill Farms in Clermont. Another one is Coon Hollo, located in Micanopy, between here and Gainesville. Both have lots of fall fun for the entire family and are an easy drive. Every Central Florida area seems to have some fall event to help you celebrate.

I may be biased, but Downtown Winter Garden has an incredible fall festival. Decorations, themed light shows, entertainment, and a hay maze are just a few ways to celebrate the season in the charming town I call home.

3) Oktoberfest Celebrations

No fall list is complete without attending at least one Oktoberfest celebration. Many local breweries are doing Oktoberfest events, which are so much fun!

I must shout out to my friend Jim Barrie with BarrieHaus Beer Co. in Tampa. It’s outside of the Orlando area, but worth the drive. They put on a fun event with live music, games, prizes, and great beer.

Breweries are just one place to enjoy the festivities. One of the best and most authentic options is the local German-American Society. Their Oktoberfest celebration is packed with dancing, music, and food to make you feel like you’re in Europe!

4) Halloween Fun

I love Halloween! Growing up, I had a wonderful time as a kid with all the festivities. I’m more on the playful, fun side, not the too creepy, scary side.

One place you need to check out is Holiday Joe’s house in Winter Garden. This private home across from the Oakland Park neighborhood is elaborately decorated for Halloween and Christmas. It’s been featured on the local news and is always fun to see.

Central Florida’s theme parks join in the fun with offerings for every scare level.

If you want all the treats and no tricks, visit Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World for the popular Mickey’s Not So Scary Party. While this is a ticketed event, the park is still beautifully decorated with many great photo ops.

For those who love the scary bits, Universal Studios and SeaWorld also offer special ticketed events for the season. Dedicated scare zones allow you to choose your path based on your scare tolerance.

5) Quiet Moments

I love to take advantage of the crisp fall air when it finally reaches Central Florida. There’s something to be said for taking a few moments to reflect while relaxing with the morning sun and cooler temperatures.

Having a nice cup of coffee on the back porch and having some quiet time with the Lord is the perfect start to my day.
